As a Fairgrounds resident of 7 years, I absolutely adore this hidden gem of a neighborhood. Ever since my first trip to Café Degas in 2012, I knew that Bayou St John and the surrounding areas were where I wanted to live. The area is somehow simultaneously walkable and less dense than the rest of Mid-City and Esplanade Ridge. The ability to walk to City Park as well as the multitude of nearby restaurants is an essential part of NOLA life. At the same time, the spacious lot sizes and homes that are available in the area create a more spacious and peaceful environment than much of the surrounding area.
The Fairgrounds Race Course is the namesake and center of the neighborhood, and Jazz Fest is the heart. Every year, we benefit from hearing sound checks, shows, and the unbeatable people watching as residents. On the “Gentilly Stage side” of the Fairgrounds, the traffic associated with Jazz Fest is minimal, and I have always been able to get in and out of the neighborhood easily.
Another bonus to being near the Fairgrounds is the Fairgrounds neighborhood security patrol that is paid for by the Fairgrounds and patrols the neighborhood day and night. From Fairgrounds, the rest of New Orleans is a mere 15-20 minutes away in any direction, whether it is errand running in Metairie you are after or a nice dinner in the Marigny. I adore this neighborhood and hope to spend all my New Orleans days here.

Clean Exterior Surfaces: Don’t have a machine? No problem. These are easy to rent or borrow, and we are happy to provide a list of companies who are able to assist. After long periods of time living in our home, most of us don’t even realize how much more fresh your driveway, windows, and siding could look after a simple pressure wash.
